What to Expect from Safe Harbor Therapy: At Safe Harbor Therapy, counselling is a calm, steady space where you don’t have to “have it all together”. Over eight weeks, we move at your pace, focusing on what feels most important and manageable for you. The outline below provides a gentle guide to how our time together may unfold, so you know what to expect before you begin. Weeks 1–2: First steps and settling in Assessment, paperwork, and confidentiality Talking about what brings you to counselling now Agreeing on goals and how we’ll work together Beginning to share your story at your own pace . Weeks 3–4: Understanding your story Exploring key experiences, patterns, and triggers Noticing links between thoughts, feelings, and behaviour Introducing simple coping tools you can try between sessions. Weeks 5–6: Working on change Focusing on the main themes we’ve identified (e.g., anxiety, low mood, relationships, loss) Reviewing the work we’ve done so far Practising new ways of responding to difficult situations Gently challenging unhelpful patterns, with support. Weeks 7–8: Consolidation and next steps Reviewing what has shifted and what still feels tender Strengthening the tools and insights that help you most Thinking together about what you need after the eight weeks Planning an ending that feels as safe and supported as possible.
